Local government praised for restricting adult businesses

March 17, 2005

Dear Editor:

I would like to voice my opinion on the issue of adult entertainment and its locating in Danville.

While I am not a native of Danville, I did choose to move here. One thing I did not look for were strip joints or adult bookstores to help me make that decision. Had I wanted that type of entertainment, I would have relocated to Lexington or Louisville. For this reason, I applaud the local government for their concern even before it is an issue.

A previous letter writer mentioned that restricting this type of industry from locating here would hurt economic growth. My question is, Will the growth outweigh the cost? Growth no matter what the cost is not a good creed to hold to. If we as a people have to forgo all morals and the such to be rich or have economic growth, then we need more than morality police.

As for his mention of the smoking ban instituted by Lexington, I say it is far overdue. Smoking should be banned in public in every state in this country. Not only in public but around children, too.

It seems that the people you always hear complaining are the ones whose "rights" always infringe on the rights of the people not killing themselves or leading an abominable lifestyle.

As for the local government, I say hooray to you and keep it up.
