One becomes addicted to Senior Citizens Gathering Place

March 17, 2005

Dear Editor:

I would like to comment on the wonderful article that Brenda S. Edwards wrote Sunday on our Senior Citizens Gathering Place in Danville.

As a member of the Gathering Place, I can vouch for the enjoyment and fulfilling, clean entertainment that we like in our golden years. One becomes addicted to this place and hates to have to miss going to it for even one day. It has such a magnetism that it's hard to get weaned off.

Our staff works diligently to make us enjoy ourselves. Jackie Sims, our executive director, is very conservative and works hard within her budget to give us "the mostest for the leastest." She does a splendid job.

We have another staff member to whom I'd like to pay tribute, Martha Gibson.

Martha is small in stature, but her heart reaches from one end of that building to the other. She loves everybody, and everybody loves her. She has the ability to meet all personalities. Not only does she work in the kitchen, clean and prepare activities, she lends an ear to anyone who wants to talk to her. She has the love to listen, compassion to show she cares and the endurance to hear us out. She's a very special lady. A friend in need, she's a friend, indeed!

Newcomers are made to feel welcome by our hugs, conversations and just plain friendliness.

Donations to our center, whether in money, material things or prayers, are deeply appreciated. We extend to all a big heartfelt thanks and God bless.
