Centre College outfielder Chris Bennett has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball offensive player of the week for March 7-13.
Bennett, a senior from Louisville, helped the Colonels to a 4-1 record during the week, including a four-game sweep of Oglethorpe to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. It was Centre's first conference sweep since the SCAC Eastern Division began playing four-game series in 2000 and the first conference sweep of any sort since the Colonels swept Sewanee in three games in 1997.
In five games, Bennett hit .500 (12-for-24), scoring eight runs and knocking in 12 more. He recorded a career-high eight RBIs in a 24-11 win over Oglethorpe in the second game of the weekend series, where he came up a double short of the cycle and had his second grand slam of the season.
Bennett had at least two hits in all four conference games and is currently hitting .426 (20-for-47) with two doubles, two triples and two home runs - both grand slams. He also has 23 runs batted in, six more than he had all of last year and only one shy of the career high of 24 he had as a sophomore.
