Does not favor a western bypass around Lancaster

April 08, 2005

Dear Editor:

I'm writing in response to a letter to the editor that appeared on March 29 addressing a U.S. 27 western bypass around Lancaster. I respect the contributor's right to his opinion but differ with his statement that "everyone" will agree that a western bypass is the best and most logical option.

Reconstruction of Ky. 52 East from Lancaster to Manse is completed and construction is planned to continue until it eventually joins I-75 in Madison County. Now, what seems logical to me, is that if the bypass goes west, all traffic coming from I-75 on Ky. 52 will still have to come to the Square in Lancaster to connect to U.S. 27 north or south. All that's gained is more traffic.

I do agree that Ky. 52 to Danville needs major improvement, but I, for one, do not favor a western bypass.
