April 22, 2005

Burgin rallied from a five-run deficit over the final two innings Thursday to post a 9-8 road win over Harrodsburg.

In the seventh inning, Seth Trayner's single up the middle off Andy McCrystal, who started and came back in after the first three runners reached base, drove in Shayne Trayner and Josh Carey.

Ian Powell singled in Daniel Loane and Seth Trayner later scored on a wild pitch for the eventual game-winning run.

Harrodsburg left a runner stranded at third in the bottom of the seventh.

"This was a pretty big comeback win for Burgin," Burgin coach John Powell said.

"We felt like we were in a good position to make a pitching change we didn't throw strikes again," Harrodsburg coach Brent Drury said.

"Our bases on balls are killing us we let them get back into the game."

Daniel Howard came in the fourth inning and gave two runs - one earned - allowed two hits and struck out two in 3 1/3 innings to get the win for Burgin (2-7, 1-1 46th District).

He also went 3-for-4 with a pair of triples, Adam Gray was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, Travis White drove in three runs and Seth Leeds and Zeke Edwards each singled.

"We played with lot of emotion, proud of how kids came out after a bad loss at Mercer," Drury said.

"We've just got to regroup for our game against Frankfort on Monday."

Harrodsburg jumped out to a 7-2 lead before Burgin scored three in the top of the sixth.

Howard scored on a passed ball, Ricky Ryan knocked in Seth Trayner and Powell scored on a wild pitch.

Casey County 9, Model 2 - At Richmond, Marcus Patterson went 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs to lead Casey (8-6) over Model (8-4).

The Rebels took control of the game with a five-run third inning. Model answered with two runs in the bottom of that inning but couldn't score again off Casey pitchers Will Johnson and Riddle.
