Archery program is a hit at Junction City

April 26, 2005

The new archery program at Junction City Elementary School made a direct hit with fourth- and fifth-graders.

The classes were made available through the Archery in Schools "On Target for Life" program and the Kentucky Department for Fish and Wildlife. The program helps students academically, behaviorally and emotionally.

Eight adults received six hours of professional development training through the National Field Archery Association and National Archery Association to help students learn the sport.

This was the first Boyle County Archery in Schools Program and soon will be administered as an extracurricular activity as interest begins to build through physical education classes. Many of the students in Bernice Bates' fourth-grade class had never had the opportunity to experience archery.

Scott Bolling, director of the 21st Century program, said, "We are excited about the program and what it can offer the kids."
