Danville held to three hits

May 13, 2005

Bethlehem used three big innings to beat Burgin 8-4 Thursday night at Bardstown.

Bethlehem used a 10-hit attack to erase Burgin's early 2-0 lead. The Banshees scored three runs in the third inning on five straight two-out hits, then added two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Burgin committed five errors, but coach Matt Grimes said they didn't contribute to most of Bethlehem's runs.

"Their runs really came off their hits," Grimes said. "We had nothing to hang our heads about. I thought our girls came out and played a good ballgame.

"Although we still aren't hitting the ball well, I thought there were some positive signs."

Burgin had seven hits, including two by Tiffany Shewmaker. Amanda Carey, Stephanie Stewart, Jessica Allen and Amanda Powell had one hit each.

Burgin is off until Tuesday, when it hosts Paris in its final home game.

Paul Dunbar 9, Danville 1 - At Lexington, Danville managed only three hits in a loss to Dunbar.

Jerrica Potts had a pair of singles and scored the Lady Admirals' only run, and Kaneisha Johnson also had a single.

Dunbar broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning that included five of its eight hits, two Danville errors and a hit batsman by losing pitcher Chelsea Wallace, who walked two batters and struck out two.
