Inter-County meeting draws 2,800

An estimated crowd of 2,800 attended Inter-County Energy's 67th annual meeting Friday at Boyle County High School.

Two board members were re-elected to three-year terms: Daniel Divine, Boyle district, and James Kevin Preston, Garrard district.

Jim Jacobus, Inter-County president and CEO, talked about the cooperative's rates and financial stability.

"Kentucky's electric rates are the lowest in the nation. Inter-County Energy will continue to work to provide members with reliable electric energy at the lowest possible rate," said Jacobus.

Jacobus recognized recently retired employees.

The meeting also included recognition of retired employees who have died since last year's annual meeting and a special tribute to longtime director and chairman of the board, Thomas Gooch, who passed away in March.

Six $1,000 scholarships were awarded - one from each directorial district. Graduating seniors receiving scholarships were Abigale Piper, Boyle; Jonathan Conder, Casey; Christina Abbott, Garrard; Brittany Camenisch, Lincoln; Beth Lee, Marion; and Amanda Pike, Mercer.

The six students selected to attend the Washington Youth Tour this summer hosted by Inter-County Energy are Stephanie Slone, Boyle; McKinzee Weddle, Casey; Brandon Dennis, Garrard; Jalessa Owsley, Lincoln; Ellen Bland, Marion; and Tracy McClain, Mercer.

A $1,000 grant was awarded to Glasscock Elementary School, in Marion County, to enhance the outdoor classroom with bird feeders, squirrel feeders and a mini-weather station.

Students will plant a trees and flowers that are native to Kentucky.

Entertainment was provided by The Perrys and cowboy magician Mark Wood.

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center conducted a mini health fair.

Door prizes were awarded; $500 cash prizes went to Ursula Mitchell, Howard Atwood, Shirley Jeffries, April Humes, Terri Edlin, Carroll Purdom and Garnett Mobley.
