Fifth-seeded Cathy Shewmaker and Asia Lee of Mercer County and sixth-seeded Lindsey Sheene and Meredith Coffey of Casey County won in straight sets, and eighth-seeded Katherine Becker and Katie Nedvidek of Danville won in three sets.
The only upset of a seeded team came when Mercer's Kendra Hammons and Erica Lee defeated Harrodsburg's Jana Walker and Alex Renfro, the No. 4 seeds, 6-1, 6-2.
Some of the doubles matches were moved to indoor courts in Richmond due to thunderstorms.
Second-round matches are scheduled for today at Madison Southern and Berea College. The tournament continues through Sunday.
