State grant will improve Junction City sewage system

May 29, 2005

Gov. Ernie Fletcher and the Governor's Office for Local Development (GOLD) announced today a $1,502,000 Community Development Block Grant for the cities of Danville and Junction City. The funds will be used for a project to build an interceptor sewer connector between the two cities.

The construction of an interceptor sewer connector between Danville and Junction City is necessary to improve wastewater treatment services for citizens of Junction City. The city of Danville provides treatment service for Junction City. Construction will include nearly four miles of sewer line and force main as well as pump stations. This will eliminate discharge into the local stream.

"This regional coordination between Danville and Junction City is a fantastic example of the benefits of local cooperation," said GOLD Commissioner Ellen Williams. "Organizing projects at the regional level is better for everyone involved; not only are funds used more efficiently, but individuals have access to more services and amenities."

Community Development Block Grants are federal monies procured through the efforts of Kentucky's U.S. Congressional leaders. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development makes these funds available through GOLD, which administers the CDBG Small Cities program in Kentucky.
