Items in the cart totaled $693.27, Newell said. The charge against Spears was raised from theft to robbery because Spears allegedly used force to try to escape from store employees, he said.
2 people arrested during search
Two people were arrested Thursday night after Danville police executed a search warrant at a Patrician Place apartment looking for stolen property. Antonio Hayes, 19, and Rochelle Larrison, 23, both of 434 Patrician Place Suite 4, were each charged with receiving stolen property more than $300.
Assistant Danville Police Chief Jay Newell said officers executed the search about 10:30 p.m. and recovered cell phones, compact discs, a clothes hamper and a checkbook reportedly taken during recent burglaries in the area.
"There had been a rash of burglaries in the neighborhood and the investigations pointed toward these folks as the suspects," Newell said.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming, Newell said.
Hayes and Larrison also were charged with theft of services after officers discovered an extension cord running electricity from a vacant apartment above their residence, Newell said.
