Boyle fair admission unfair

July 21, 2005

Dear Editor:

I have been a fair-goer since childhood. I attend the state fair faithfully. Ask anyone who knows me. But due to the increasing admission charges for the Boyle County Fair, I have not attended for the past few years.

I understand the $8 admission covers all shows and rides, but what about those of us who would like to view the events and exhibits but choose not to ride (for example, small children and the elderly)? I also know one day is set aside for free attendance for senior citizens, but what if that day is not suitable for our seniors?

I think a more "fair" charge would be to charge a flat, reasonable admission fee, with the option of paying more for a ride pass. Please give this suggestion some thought, fair board. You may be surprised at the boost in attendance.
