Midshipman Brett Monthie of Danville was selected to serve as the Second Company Naval Officer at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N.Y. As the Second Company Naval Officer, Monthie is responsible for overseeing the midshipmen's obligation requirements post-graduation by maintaining files and keeping in contact with recent Navy and Naval Reserve Commissioning Activities, and presenting them to the Company. He also acts as the liaison between the Regimental Watch Officer and the Company for purposes of ensuring all watches are stood.

A graduate of Lincoln County High School, Monthie is studying logistics and intermodal transportation at the academy. Monthie is the son of Jill and Tim Stone of Danville and Alan and Tammie Monthie of Lexington. He received a nomination to the Academy by then-Congressman Ernie Fletcher in 2002.
