Dear Editor:
Bravo! to The Advocate Messenger for allowing Brian Cooney to contribute his opinion to the paper! I have to agree with Tom Handloser whose letter on Aug. states that Mr. Cooney is biased. He is an unwavering, unapologetic Democrat.
But I don't think his bias makes him unqualified to be a contributing writer, as Mr. Handloser suggests. If this were true, would Mr. Handloser also disqualify Cal Thomas, Rich Lowry, George Will, Kathleen Parker, Thomas Sowell and Charles Krauthammer, who are all staunch conservatives and the only regular contributors to this paper?
It is disturbing how the current administration and its supporters try to quash any opinion that strays from theirs - or characterize it as unpatriotic. I applaud the Advocate for offering a different point of view. Some of us do want to hear both sides.
