Bethlehem Baptist to observe 200 years

Bethlehem Baptist Church on U.S. 150, west of Perryville, will observe its 200th anniversary Sept. 18 with an all-day meeting.

The church is the oldest congregation in the Baptist Central Association and is in its third building since it was established in 1805. The first church was on Shortline Road. A second building burned in 1940, and the current building replaced that one.

The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with Sunday school. A potluck meal will be served at noon and services will continue at 2:30 p.m.

The Rev. Jimmy Eddenfield, pastor, will deliver the 11 a.m. sermon, and the Rev. Rick Shannon, former pastor, will speak at 2:30 p.m. Special music is planned at both services and will feature The Carpenters of Boyle County and other singers.
