Jessamine ladies earn

all-tournament honors

for district volleyball

East Jessamine's Renee Byrd and West Jessamine's Britteny Rader were named to the 40th district's all-tournament volleyball team on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Both East and West were defeated in the first round of district play; East (1-26) fell to the Lexington Catholic Lady Knights, 2-0 (25-1, 25-9), on Monday and the Lady Colts were defeated by the Lexington Christian Academy Lady Eagles, 2-0 (25-7, 25-12) on the same evening.

East Jessamine head Coach Steve Schweitzer called Byrd, a senior hitter, the team's "rock," and said she provided much-needed leadership for the young Lady Jags this season.

"She takes control out there," he said. "She's one of our best passers, she plays middle excellent on the front line ... She's got a good heart, she's a team player, she's dependable and she really helped the younger players and the team for sure."

West Jessamine's Rader, a first-year transfer freshman, anchored the Lady Colts' front lines against the tough Eagles squad.

"She played on the front lines for us and did well for us up there," said West head Coach Kara Kruchinski. "She had some good blocks. It was still a tough game, but I think she deserves some recognition."

West Jessamine finished the season with a 4-15 record.
