Jessamine Hospice has new chaplain

Coates has lived in Jessamine for five years with his wife, Andrea, and their three children. He has been with Hospice of the Bluegrass in its Frankfort office since Feb- ruary 2004.

Coates graduated from Asbury College in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He then received his master of divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2000. He was pastor of Nicholasville Baptist Church from January 2001 until November 2004.

As well as being a pastor, Coates has served on several boards and helps with many community programs, such as being a devotion leader for the Jessamine County Senior Citizens Center, being a member and past president for four years of the Jessamine County Ministerial Association, and being a former board member of Nicholasville NOW!'s downtown restoration committee.

"We are very pleased and honored to have Reverend Ray Coates with the Jessamine County team," said Hospice director Jamieson Gann in a news release sent Oct. 13.

Gann said people may call the Hospice office at 887-2696.

He is available to speak to groups.

Hospice of the Bluegrass, Jessamine County provides medical care and support for terminally ill patients at home, in nursing facilities and at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Support and bereavement services are extended to family members, care givers and anyone in grief in the community.
