Arts Commission's fourth Gallery Hop set for Friday

November 08, 2005

Arts activities are abundant this weekend. A couple of the options are The Arts Commission of Danville/Boyle County's fourth Gallery Hop 5:30-9 p.m. Friday, followed on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. with the Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce's "All in Good Taste," an evening of food, art and music.

Gallery Hop

Hoppers can visit 17 downtown businesses or agencies on or nearly on Main. These local "galleries" will offer complimentary hors d'oeuvres to tempt taste buds while perusing the works of more than 50 artists. Painting, jewelry, photography, pottery, fiber art, ornaments, greeting cards and clay whimsies will be on exhibit and for sale.

The Gallery Hop Stop series will celebrate its first birthday with Friday evening's event. Begun by the Arts Commission in November 2004, with financial support from Kentucky Utilities, this project is a partnership of Danville/Boyle County artists and businesses.

"The cooperative spirit of our local business community has made these Hops a success," said Ann Nichols, executive director of the Arts Commission. "Not only do they make staff available to open their doors after hours, welcome local artists and provide exhibit space, but they also serve a yummy assortment of appetizers. The ACDBC could never have continued the this project without their help."

Maps are available prior to the Hop at Chase, Community Trust, National City, the Community Arts Center, and the Arts Commission office in City Hall. On Friday evening, maps can be found in each of the 17 Hop Stop locations, which will be designated by purple "Arts Event" banners.

None of the locations are far from Main Street. "Please don't let a few more steps keep you from the Boyle County Library, where five artists will be located, or the Heart of Kentucky United Way, where another four are set up," Nichols said. "You won't want to miss Constitution Square State Park where in Wilderness Trace Art League Gallery, Grayson's Tavern and the Museum Store you'll see the works of more than a dozen."
