A local woman has been charged in connection with the shooting of her boyfriend last week.

Patricia Kanatzer, 53, was wanted by police after last Wednesday's shooting of Keith Sebastian. Police received a call from a neighbor at 12:40 that afternoon, who reported hearing a gunshot.

Kanatzer allegedly fled the scene after Sebastian, 58, was shot with his own handgun at his residence at 623 N. Main Street in Nicholasville. When police arrived, Sebastian told them she had shot him in the leg. He was treated by Jessamine County EMS at the scene, and transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

The police recovered the handgun, and issued a bulletin that a shooting suspect was at large. They gave a description of the suspect, and advised that she was possibly driving a black 1986 Mazda with front end damage.

According to a press release from the Nicholasville Police Department, Kanatzer turned herself in at 10 a.m. the following morning at the police station on North Main Street.

According to Nicholasville Police Lt. John Branscum, Kanatzer claimed that the domestic situation between her and Sebastian - her live-in boyfriend - had been deteriotating for many years.

"She said she just had had all she could take," Branscum said.

He added that Sebastian - against whom no charges have been filed - had little to say about the incident.

"He was pretty calm about the whole thing," Branscum said. "He was just basically in disbelief that she could have done it."

Kanatzer was arrested and taken to the Jessamine County Detention Center, where she remained on a $15,000 bond until Monday, when she was released on the condition that she wear a tracking bracelet on her ankle until her court date next week.

Branscum said that such bracelets are worn by those on whom restrictions have been placed on where the wearer is allowed to go. The bracelets allow authorities to monitor their location.

Kanatzer is charged with first-degree assault and will apperar in Jessamine District Court on Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.
