Danville to host travel writers

December 06, 2005

The Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau will host six travel writers Thursday. The travel writers are from well-known publications and media outlets from across the nation.

During the visit, the group of travel writers will tour some of the community's historical attractions including Constitution Square, McDowell House and Perryville Battlefield.

The goal of the visit is to showcase Danville and Boyle County as a tourist destination.

"We are delighted to host these travel writers in Danville-Boyle County," said Mary Quinn Ramer, executive director of the Danville-Boyle County CVB.

"The value of this free publicity is tremendous, and the stories that are written as a result of this tour are equivalent to thousands of dollars spent in advertising. This tour can have a wonderful impact on the local tourism economy."

The writers contribute to well-known national publications including Fodor's USA, Entertainment News & Views, Food & Wine, Senior Travel and Gourmet Passport among others. Stories and columns are likely to appear in various publications throughout the next 12 months.

The travel writer tour is organized by Geiger and Associates, a public relations firm based in Florida and hired by the Southern and Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development Association. Boyle County was added to SEKTDA in 2004.
