Weddings - The Proposal: Life at the beach

January 19, 2006|KATHRYN DECKER

Editor's note: We asked readers to share stories of wedding proposals and here they are.

My husband, Aaron R. Decker, proposed to me on June 5, 2004, while we were on vacation at my family condo in Myrtle Beach. Then not even a year later, March 7, 2005, we got married over looking the water at the Sandals Montego Bay resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Here is our story.

Aaron and I drove all the way down to Myrtle Beach, which is like 10 hours. We were starving when we finally got there so he took me to a seafood restaurant and I know he hates seafood, so I was already feeling special. Once we got back to our resort it was dusk, but he kept asking to go for a walk on the beach. So I agreed and we went downstairs and out into the sand. I showed him the places where I used to play when I was little on vacation.

Then, when we were off to ourselves, near the inlet he got down on his knees and started telling me how much he loved me and how we were meant for each other and how he didn't want to live without me. Finally, he asked me to marry him and he took out a beautiful diamond ring from his swimming trunks. Of course, I said yes.

We had a wonderful vacation and when we started planning our wedding we thought it was rather fitting that we get married in the same way that we got engaged. So off we went to Jamaica with my mother and sister sitting a few rows behind us on the plane. We didn't get married in the sand, but in a sweet gazebo over the water. It was wonderful and we wouldn't change anything about either event. We came back to the states and had a reception at the Community Arts Center - the first wedding reception to be held there.
