Doesn't Cooney know we're at war?

February 07, 2006

Dear Editor:

Where was your guest columnist Brian Cooney Sept. 11, 2001 when the world trade towers were demolished by a cowardly terrorist act of al-Qaida? Doesn't he know that we are at war? He and the Bush-haters criticize our Nation Security Agency's eavesdropping on the international communications of people on American soil who are linked to the al-Qaida and terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan. Intercepting communications of the enemy have always been a vital operation in wartime.

If Professor Cooney has a better way of preventing terrorists from attacking our country, I (and probably the military) wish he would come forward with it. If we had had the Patriot Act and surveillance in place in 2000 and 2001, probably the devastation of Sept. 11, 2001 would have been prevented.

Mr. Cooney and the Bush-haters suggest impeaching President Bush for being in Iraq. Whom do they recommend for his replacement? Vice President Cheney, plus Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and other prominent Democrats supported our going into Iraq in 2003.
