West Jessamine alum earns Transy honors

Junior forward Joey Searle averaged 20 points and seven rebounds to lead Transylvania University to a pair of wins last week, earning the Nicholasville native Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors in a vote of league coaches Monday.

Transylvania defeated Mt. St. Joseph, 73-59. Searle led the team with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Saturday at Bluffton, Transy won 84-62, with a season best 23 points and 10 rebounds from Searle. For the week, Searle was 14 for 24 from the field and 8 for 11 from three-point range. He's averaging 11.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, and is the first Pioneer men's player honored this season.

With an 18-3 record, the Pioneers are ranked 19th in the NCAA Division III men's basketball poll.
