Dear Editor:
As I and many others approach retirement, Social Security becomes a big issue. I do not understand the need to pay taxes on 50 percent of Social Security benefits (if income is above certain levels). The reason being that we have already paid half of the contributions plus the company has paid the other half or in case of the self-employed the whole amount. Another issue is in regard to limiting the amount a person can make to $11,800 without losing benefits.
The reason for my complaint is unfairness to the 62-66 age group, as we seem forced to pay but handicapped as to what we can make without losing benefits.
According to a Supreme court ruling, we as Americans who pay these FICA taxes have no guaranteed right to them. This ruling is against the very people who are forced to pay with no recourse.
