STANFORD - Gov. Ernie Fletcher and the Governor's Office for Local Development announced a $150,000 Renaissance on Main grant Monday for the city of Stanford. Funding will be used for facility renovations of Willy's Overland Parking Garage. "The city of Stanford has worked diligently to create a more viable downtown area," said Fletcher.
"With these improvements, Stanford will heighten the appeal of their downtown, creating more opportunities for businesses to flourish due to the increase in individuals visiting the area."
The funding will be used to create an indoor parking facility with 25 spaces, a museum display featuring memorabilia from Willy's Overland Garage and green space for the city.
"Stanford has illustrated their commitment to downtown development by participating in the Renaissance on Main program," said Sen. Ed Worley, D-Richmond. "This funding is the fruition of the efforts of community leaders." In addition to parking, funds will be used for structural improvements, lighting, a HVAC system and masonry repair.
