Duggins says he would like to offer more workshops and encourages people who are interested to call him.
"I would like to get more involved with Danville and the Richmond area," said Duggins. "We're trying to get the education out there, so people don't put in a water pond they hate."
The business promotes a "Ponds for Kids" program that was the initial inspiration behind the science center project. The program is designed to help area schools create natural habitats and outdoor classrooms.
"Basically, we donate our time and the schools are responsible for raising money for the supplies," Duggins said. Due to the nature of the program and the marketing that takes place, events must be scheduled months in advance. "I really would like to get one to two schools signed up for a fall installation," he said.
Duggins says it's hard to remain on the sidelines.
"We must warn you that the energy of building a pond is addictive and you might just find yourself with a shovel in your hands, so be sure to bring your work gloves and wear some old clothes because we are going to get dirty and have a whole lot of fun."
Benefits of adding native plants will be exhibited
The Living Arts & Science Center also will exhibit the benefits of adding native plants to water gardens and demonstrate how they will be used as part of its science programming.
The workshop and installation is funded by a gift from an individual donor, Jim Baylor, who is an active member of The Living Arts & Science Center's board of directors, and by H2O Designs' Ponds for Kids program.
