Casey to build bridge over Goose Creek

April 18, 2006|BRENDA S. EDWARDS

LIBERTY - With the help of state funds, a new bridge will be constructed over Goose Creek on Windsor Road.

Judge-Executive Ronald Wright told Casey Fiscal Court Monday that the county will get up to $160,000 from the state Transportation Cabinet for the construction. The court passed a resolution to accept the money and will be responsible for the remainder of the costs. Wright said he does not expect the bid to be under $160,000.

The court agreed to advertise for bids on the project.

In other road matters, the court agreed to accept .514 of a mile of Jimmy Combs Road into the county maintenance program. Wright said it has a 30-foot right-of way and meets the criteria for a county road.

In financial matters, the court amended the budget to include more than $800,000 of unanticipated funds.

Wright said the money comes from taxes, fees from sale of equipment, medical allowance for the jail, and economic development.

The funds include: General, $476,945; road, $192,247; jail, $97,178; local government assistance fund, $1,130; and economic development, $50,000. The court gave first reading to the amendment that also has to be approved by the state.

The court also learned that construction on the 40-bed addition to the county's Detention Center is expected to be finished by May 5, but that might not happen.

"I'm not sure they will make it," said Wright. "They have had problems getting materials."

He said the jail currently is filled to capacity.
