Blood drive for Casey child successful

April 25, 2006

LIBERTY - The blood and bone marrow drive Monday for 3-year-old Haylee Milroy was a huge success.

People donated 83 pints of blood and 52 were tested for bone marrow matches during the drawing at Gateway park. Central Kentucky Blood Center in Lexington and Poplar Springs Volunteer Fire Department sponsored the drive.

"We did exceptionally well considering there was a blood drive in Casey County last month," said Haylee's mother Candice Milroy. "We were really pleased."

Milroy said Haylee was at the drawing for a while, but got tired and had to go home.

"She liked watching all those people getting stuck instead of her."

Haylee suffers from Franconi anemia and will need a bone marrow transplant in the future.
