Stanford Elementary students saving pop can tabs

April 27, 2006

Students at Stanford Elementary School have been saving tabs which were given to the Lincoln County Extension Homemakers project involving Indian Summer Camp scholarship money.

Recently, students presented 100 pounds of pop can tabs to the homemakers. There were approximately 1,052 pop can tabs per pound.

Gail Hester, a teacher, has been coordinating this effort with the students. Lucille Hammons, county treasurer for Extension Homemakers and Rosa Bertram were present at the school to accept the tabs. Rosa then took and sold the tabs, resulting in a check for $56.00 for Indian Summer Camp scholarship money.

The project was labeled "Hoppers of Hope at Stanford Elementary. 90% of the amount of tabs collected came from Stanford Elementary.
