BURGIN - After getting its first win ever against Berea earlier this year, the Burgin softball team completed a regular-season sweep of Berea Thursday when Amanda Carey singled in her younger sister, Shelby, with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Bulldogs an 8-7 victory.
"Of course, any win is a good win, but I am particularly proud of this one because of the way we kept our composure when it was a little too close for comfort in the sixth inning," Burgin coach Matt Grimes said. "We have played a very demanding schedule, including two games that had gone extra innings.
"The pressure we had already faced prepared us to handle this situation with the confidence we would have otherwise lacked. Sweeping two games against Berea, a team we had never beat before, is really something special for our team."
Pitcher Taylor Bottoms got the win to move to 6-8 on the year. She struck out 10 and walked three. Bottoms also drove in three runs.
