Baseball: Homers boost Burgin over Paris

Burgin slammed three home runs Tuesday and six runs over the final two innings as the Bulldogs went on to beat visiting Paris 12-7.

After Paris had tied the game at 6-all in the fifth, Josh Carey singled, Daniel Loane was hit by a pitch and Seth Trayner walked to load the bases.

Carey scored on a wild pitch, Daniel Howard reached on an error which scored Loane and Trayner and Howard scored on a passed ball to give Burgin the lead back for good.

In the sixth inning, Evan Mobley smacked a solo homer and Carey and Trayner had back-to-back doubles to give Burgin (18-9) a 12-6 lead.

Burgin took a 6-2 lead on a three-run homer from Ian Powell in the second inning, a solo homer from Carey in the third.

In the fourth, Trenton Claunch scored on a wild pitch and Jordan Darland singled in Spencer Gray.

Carey finished the night with four hits, scored three times and had three RBIs. Trayner had two hits and an RBI and Howard scored twice.

Howard started and got the win to improve to 9-1, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Carey worked the final two innings.

Casey County 9, Lincoln County 2 - At Liberty, Casey (3-20) scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on for the win over visiting Lincoln (8-16).

Daniel Riddle went 2-for-4, Jared Howard was 2-for-3 and Shannon Wethington was 1-for-3 for the Rebels.

Wethington also went the distance to pick up the win.
