Contract approved for Main Street Renovations

Jessamine County Fiscal Court approved a contract with Jarboe Construction last Wednesday, which designates the company as construction manager for the renovation of buildings on Main Street in downtown Nicholasville.

"We are expecting the engineering and architectural work to begin immediately," County Attorney Brian Goettl said.

Jarboe Construction, a Lexington-based firm, should have the buildings stabilized and the facades cleared in the next 60 days, and the remaining construction complete 12 months after that, Goettl said.

The initial 60-day phase may require some road closures downtown, but it will allow builders to work from behind the buildings and eliminate future road interruptions, he said.

Judge-Executive Wm. Neal Cassity said the project should cost approximately $1.2 million. State agencies, including child support, will rent office space in the buildings, which will offset those construction costs.

Five companies submitted proposals for the construction project, and Cassity appointed a building committee to oversee the decision. Committee members District 3 Magistrate Terry Meckstroth, local engineer John Horne and Goettl reviewed the proposals independently, and all three members scored Jarboe the highest, Goettl said.

The committee members then made a proposal to the magistrates, and entered into contract negotiations with Jarboe Construction.
