Farmers National Bank has bigger plans for Harrodsburg

June 11, 2006|ANN R. HARNEY

HARRODSBURG - Farmers National Bank hopes to open its new branch next March on the former site of Stone Manor Restaurant and Motel and Jacquelyn's.

At full capacity, it will employ 16 people, doubling the size of the staff at the current branch.

The new facility will be more than double the size of the current building on Legion Drive, according to Jeff Thornton, executive vice president and chief financial officer at the main bank in Danville.

He said a typical branch is 3,000 square feet in size, while the new office will be 7,500 square feet. The process of getting the building constructed will begin next week when plans go out to contractors invited to bid.

The bids are due back and will be opened July 13. Thornton hopes construction will begin in late July or early August. Work is expected to take eight months.

While the facility will be a full-service-plus office, the current building will be used to process checks and make up statements for Farmers' customers. Eight people will run those operations. The bank processes 675,000 checks a month. It will take about a month to reconfigure the building and set up those operations.

The automatic teller machine at the current building also will remain open. A second ATM - this one through the wall - will be at the new building. It also will have six inside teller windows and six outside drive-through lanes. The building will face South College Street, and the design calls for 50 parking spaces.

Current Manager Jamie Dunn will still be the manager in the new building.

At full capacity, there will be:

* Three to four loan officers and two assistants to those officers;

* Two customer service representatives to handle new accounts, individual retirement accounts and certificates of deposit, and;

* Up to two brokers and an assistant to the brokers who will handle a full range of investments and securities.

In addition to the Harrodsburg branch, Farmers has offices in Burgin, Stanford, Perryville and Junction City and five in Danville.
