LANCASTER - Two Garrard sheriff's deputies and a Kentucky State Police trooper apprehended a burglary suspect early Monday morning by making a visit next door to the scene of the crime.

According to a report from the KSP, Trooper Rodney Wren was dispatched to 233 Kennedy Lane with deputies David Amons and Brandon Conley to investigate a home invasion at 2:45 a.m.

Upon arriving, Wren met with Melissa Patterson who described a white male, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 135 pounds who had broken into her home. Patterson told police that she recognized the tattoo on the alleged burglar's neck and believed the intruder to be her neighbor.

The three officers went to the neighbor's home and recovered the stolen property, including an X-box game system with two games valued at $400, medication and loose change.

David L. Abner, Jr., 25, of 291 Kennedy Lane, was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking of more than $300, and unlawful imprisonment in the first-degree.

Sheriff Ronald Wardrip said because Patterson was unable to leave her room while Abner was allegedly burglarizing the residence, the unlawful imprisonment charge should stand.

"The statute reads in a way that says if she cannot leave because of the intruder in the house, it's imprisonment," Wardrip said.

Abner also is charged with stealing a prescription drug. He is lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center with his bond pending a pre-trial hearing.
