Danville High School Principal Joseph Payne has submitted a request for family medical leave to take care of his terminally ill mother. Superintendent Bob Rowland has approved the leave through the end of August and has appointed Win Smith principal of Danville High School.
Smith assumed duties and responsibilities effective July 20. One of his first acts as principal was to select Ed McKinney as assistant principal. The two will lead the administrative team to complete the planning and preparation for the opening of school.
Opening day for teachers and registration for students will be Aug. 14. The first day of school for students will be Aug. 16.
Smith has served as Danville High School assistant principal for six years and brings to his new role a thorough understanding of the school, staff and student body.
