Church briefs for Aug. 11

Music

Mount Freeman Baptist Church - 6 p.m. Sunday, Trinity Heirs will sing. Church is on White Oak Road.

First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster - 11 a.m. Sunday, organist Gary Powell, of Chicago, will perform. He is a Garrard County native. The church is at 105 Danville St., Lancaster.

Homecoming

Allen Chapel Church - 3 p.m. Sunday, the speaker is the Rev. A.D. Reid of St. Paul AME Church in Richmond. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Other

Hope Independent Church Missionary - 7 p.m. Saturday for a style show at the church, 888 Duncan Hill. Tickets are $5. Funds will benefit the church.

Christ the Head Missionary Church Youth Ministry - 8-10 p.m. Aug. 18 for an inspirational back-to-school program and fashion show. The program is geared for ages 12-18, however all are encouraged to attend.

St. James AME Church -11 a.m. Saturday at the church for a fish, chicken and bake sale. The church is at 124 E. Walnut St. To phone in an order call (859) 236-3241.

Revival

Second Street Christian Church - 7 p.m. Monday through Aug. 18. Guest speaker is the Rev. John C. Lee of Greater Liberty Baptist Church, Lexington. Area choirs will perform.

Guest speakers

Harrodsburg United Methodist Church - Sunday with speaker the Rev. Ben Witherington. Informal worship is at 8:45 a.m. in the youth building. The traditional worship begins at 10:45 a.m. in the sanctuary. Witherington is a professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary and the author of more than 30 books. He recently preached at National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Along with many interviews on radio networks across the country, Witherington has been seen on the History Channel, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, The Discovery Channel, A&E and the PAX Network. He will be preaching on The Reign and the Realm.

Westside United Methodist Church - 10:30 a.m. Sunday, two graduates of the Isaiah House program, Troy Michael Brandenburg and Shane Chrisman, will speak. Chrisman's mother, Joan Chrisman, will give a mom's perspective. Isaiah House in Lincoln County is a program for men in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse.

The church is at 2875 U.S. 127 in Hustonville.
