Peace is our only hope

August 17, 2006

Dear Editor,

It seems that our world as we know it is decaying and falling apart. The whole world is at war. Hatred for fellow human beings is displayed in such an ugly manner all around the globe. The leaders of many nations have adopted a position of pre-empted war. War is not always an answer to the many problems of the human race. Where are the peace keepers? It seems many nations have no desire to wage peace instead of war.

I feel that the best way to achieve peace is to make friends. The human race already has enough "enemies" against it. Natural disasters, world hunger, the many horrible diseases that ravish us. We have no control over these things. But we can control our lust for war. It would seem that mankind would grow tired of war and would desire some stability and peace in the world at some point.

We all have but one house - planet Earth. We all belong to one race - the human race. Yet, we go about destroying both. It makes no sense to me. We preach peace, but wage war. Inflicting carnage upon one another in the most horrible and inhumane ways. I look upon the world as one community. I look upon all of mankind as one family. I only wish world leaders would do the same.

I have great concern for the direction our world has taken. I have great concern for future generations of human beings. Our lust for war and destruction is unnatural to say the least. World leaders should realize that peace among all nations is our only hope, our only means of survival on earth. War destroys. Peace accomplishes much.

Nations spend vast amounts to arm themselves and to promote war, while their people starve and are ravished by diseases through pure neglect. This is past all my understanding.

World hunger, horrible diseases, illegal drugs, better defense and warning systems to handle natural disasters, and failed educational systems are the types of things that nations should be ready and willing to wage war against, not each other. We cannot entertain the thought of a better world for all until we fix our minds on world peace and pursue it with vigor equal to that we use to pursue war.

War is the enemy of all mankind. It sickens me to see the sad shape our world is in. Of all creations on earth mankind is the single creation that seeks and pursues the total destruction of one another. We are determined to destroy our kind. We seem to be dedicated to war. Why not dedicate ourselves to peace and harmony? I suppose there is but one fitting word to use - evilness. God help us.
