Letter: Noise ordinance unnecessary

August 28, 2006

Dear Editor,

I lived in Fayette County for a number of years and got tired of the uncontrolled growth and increasing number of new rules that would generate more income for the city. I moved to Garrard County to get away from all these restricting binds as I am sure others have. Now Garrard County wants to model a county-wide noise ordinance after Fayette County. Big difference - Fayette is nearly all city now so a noise ordinance would apply. Garrard is quaint countryside and a small town (hopefully will stay that way) and to mandate a countywide noise ordinance is ridiculous. I can see it for the town limits but in the country?

Our magistrates would make better use of their time by tackling real issues - a place for teens to spend their time in a healthy manner; a new, more centrally located humane society; finding ways to draw small business to the center of town to revive it; a movie theatre; a bookstore; updating the books in our library; farmer's markets; hunger; child abuse; and the like.
