Homecomings

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church - 10:30 a.m. Sunday with special music by Lana and Brandi Carpenter. A potluck lunch will follow the morning service. The church is at 243 Logan Road, Gravel Switch.

Redemption Road Church - 7 p.m. Oct. 2-6 for its annual homecoming. Special speakers will be: Oct. 2, Lawrence Bishop Jr.; Oct. 3, Darlene Bishop; and Oct. 5-6, Tommy Bates. Music will be nightly by Jeremiah Yocom. Call (606) 365-7682 for more information. The church is in Lincoln County.

Cedar Ridge Baptist Church - 11 a.m. Sunday. At 3 p.m., the Rev. Charles Commodore of Community Baptist Church in Louisville, will speak. The church is in Lincoln County.

Preachersville United Methodist Church - 11 a.m. Sunday. A lunch will be served. Special singing is at 2 p.m.

Music

First Baptist Church of Junction City - 6 p.m. Sunday for its bi-monthly music services in the church's Chandler Center. Southern gospel music will be presented by "Perfect Grace" from Quitman, Ga. The trio includes Willis Anderson, baritone and writer; Billy Griffith, lead, tenor and writer; and Cindy Musgrove, alto. It recently has presented concerts in Lafollette, Tenn., and Lexington. Mount Salem Baptist Church - 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Kindred Voice will perform. The church is on Ky. 198 between McKinney and Middleburg.

Revival

Retreat

Redemption Road Church - Nov. 17-18 at Lure Lodge near Jamestown for a "Chocolate Boutique" women's retreat that will feature worship, workshops and fellowship. The retreat is for women older than 18. The $90 registration fee includes all workshops and lodging and is due by Oct. 1. Call Julia Reid at (606) 365-7380 for more information. Seminar

DivorceCare Seminar - 6:30-8 p.m. beginning Sept. 13 for 12 weeks at Magnolia Street Christian Church, 332 S. Magnolia, Harrodsburg. The seminar is designed for individuals who are going through or have completed the divorce process, and covers anger, loneliness, depression, financial survival, children and moving on with their lives. New pastor

Hustonville Baptist Church - Jonothan Grizzelle is the new pastor. He has attended Clear Creek Bible College for 2 1/2 years. He has worked at Farmers National Bank in information technology for seven years, and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 11 years. He and his wife, Monica, have two daughters, Allie and Mya, and are expecting a third child.

Guest speakers

First Christian Church - 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday for a program on "Understanding Africa: What We Need to Know To Help."

Two experts on African issues will speak and answer questions. Karen A. Mingst is a professor at the University of Kentucky's Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce and a former chair of the university's political science department. She has taught upper-level courses at UK on the politics of sub-Saharan Africa. Sakah S. Mahmud is a native of Nigeria and an associate professor of political science at Transylvania University, where he teaches African politics as well as a course on globalization and civic responsibilities. His wife is on the faculty at Centre College.
