New store in Danville offers 'Dynamite Clothing'

September 11, 2006|TRACY HANEY

T-N-T Dynamite Clothing owner Tim Turner wouldn't say his store has exploded onto the Danville shopping scene since it opened Aug. 7, but he is optimistic that once more customers step inside his store, they'll like what they see.

T-N-T, located at 725 S. Second St., sells both men's and women's clothing and accessories.

The focus of the store is "rap culture," Turner said, but notes he has something for everybody and will gear his collection toward "whatever the community needs."

"If I have to get Wrangler jeans in here, I'll have Wrangler jeans up to the ceiling," Turner joked.

Though his store has only been open a little more than a month, Turner has been outfitting women in Danville for awhile.

Turner, who is in the process of relocating here from Michigan, has been visiting his dad, Joe Turner, in Danville for years, bringing clothes from big cities like Philadelphia, Chicago and New York City with him to sell to Danville women looking for fashions not easily found locally.

Some of those fashions include jogging suits and two-piece matching outfits for men. T-N-T also sells women's formalwear, something Turner hopes will be popular with high school and Centre College students looking for dresses to wear to school dances, and soon will have school uniforms for kids.

Church dresses for women

Turner said the store's main focus is women's dresses, particularly church dresses. He added he tries to accomodate larger women and stocks sizes up to 26. His merchandise, on average, is size 12 to 16.

"I love clothes. I love to see women in good clothes," Turner said, adding he takes orders and offers layaway.

Other than the fact Turner "saw there was a need" for a store like T-N-T in Danville, he also likes the area, particularly Kentucky's extended summers and milder winters along with its friendly atmosphere.

"It's just a different environment," he said.

As the word gets out about T-N-T and more people stop in to see what the store has to offer, he hopes business will continue to increase.

So far, the community's response has been positive, he said.

"Everybody's been very receptive and has said we need something like (T-N-T) in Danville," Turner said. "As long as I keep hearing that, I'm on the right path."
