Robyn Grider crowned Miss Casey County

LIBERTY - Robyn Grider was crowned the 53rd Miss Casey County Saturday during the 2006 pageant at the high school gymnasium. Last year's winner, Meredith Coffey, crowned Grider.

The 16-year-old daughter of Jimmy and Alta Grider and a senior at Casey County High School was picked from 10 contestants. She received $300 in cash, a crown, banner and bouquet of flowers, and will represent the county in the 2007 Miss Kentucky County Fair Pageant in January in Louisville. The Apple Festival Committee will pay for two nights lodging and her entry fee.

Grider also will escort the 2006 Little Mister and Miss Joshua Stonecypher and Makencie Woods at the August 2007 Kentucky State Fair competition. Woods is Grider's cousin.

Sarah Sidwell, 18, daughter of Tammy Sidwell and the late Bruce Sidwell, was first runner-up. She received $125 and flowers. She is a senior at CCHS.

Second runner-up was Chrissa Gosser, 17, daughter of Tonia Gosser and Jeff Gosser. She received $75 and flowers. She is a senior at CCHS.

Courtney Laman, 17-year-old daughter of Guy and Debbie Laman, was named Miss Congeniality and received an engraved charm. She is a senior at CCHS.

Lindsay Wilson, 19-year-old daughter of Terry and Susan Wilson, received the certificate of merit as winner of the Community Service Award. She is a sophomore at Eastern Kentucky University.

The contestants were judged on swimsuit and evening gown and interviews by the judges.

Others competing were Victoria Clements, Holly Durham, Drema Murphy, Emily Taylor and Ashley York. All the contestants live in Casey County.

Lydia Coffey and Rita Sweeney helped coordinate the pageant, sponsored by Liberty Kiwanis Club. Emily Godbey Fox, the 2000 Junior Miss, was the emcee.
