Sylvania UAW retireeshold monthly meeting

Winchester Sylvania's UAW retirees met at the Union Hall Tuesday, Sept. 12, for the monthly meeting.

Members were reminded of the UAW retirees' annual picnic to be held at noon Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the East Shelter House at Boonesborough State Park.

Following the meeting, the group traveled to Ravenna for lunch at Michael's Restaurant.

Attending were Lenora Adams, Dorothy Buskirk, Lola Keller, Brenda Wood, Garnetta Parker, Betty King, Barbara Elkin, Mary Lou Dinsmore, Imogene Goosey, Eldora Adams, Elinor Murphy, Mae Epperson, Wilma Standafer and guests, Jon Vickery, McKinley Miller and Bill Standafer.

The next regular union meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Union Hall on North Bloomfield Road followed by lunch at Kathy's in Clay City.

JOY/XYZ Group

has potluck lunch

The JOY/XYZ Group of the First United Methodist churh met Tuesday, Sept. 12, for a potluck luncheon in the fellowship hall at the church.

Lucille Creech and Dorothy Foster were recognized for having September birthdays. Games were played, including "A Slogan a Day" by Teddy Meister and "Citizenship Day" by William Schlegel. Bingo also was played with Boo Baldwin, coordinator, as caller. Winners and recipients of homemade friendship bread and a variety of miscellaneous gifts were Ethel Vance, Beunice Roberts, Alice Tucker and Agnes Lowry.

Plans were finalized for an outing to Berea on Sept. 26 and lunch at Cedar Village.

Bibby Anderson, assistant coordinator, gave the table blessing and lunch was served to Mildred Gallaher, Lucille Creech, Agnes Lowry, Alice Tucker, Dorothy Foster, Mary Rowe, Hazel May, Beunice Roberts, Ethel Vance, Bertha Shelton, Anderson and Baldwin.

Girl Scouts collect

books for project

Brownies Girl Scout Troop 686 and Junior Girl Scout Troop 636 need help with their fall service project.

The Scouts are collecting gently used books for the Winchester Literacy Council. They need books for all ages.

They are asking people to take a minute to sort through their books and make a difference in someone's life.

The girls will have collection boxes at elementary schools throughout the county and at the Clark County Public Library Sept. 20-28.
