Casey schools honor three for support

LIBERTY - Three people were recognized Monday night by the Casey County Board of Education for their efforts and support of the school system.

State Rep. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, and local Mayor Steven Sweeney were recognized as friends of education for their support to the schools.

Phillip Williams received a plaque for his help with organizing a tennis team and coaching the boys' tennis team.

Casey school work ahead of schedule

LIBERTY - Construction on the new Walnut Hill Elementary School is still ahead of schedule, architect Larry Swearing told the Casey County Board of Education on Monday.

The school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2007.

The board also approved a thoroughbred as the school mascot and blue and silver as school colors.

In other construction matters, the board approved a $486,395 pay application to D.W. Wilburn Construction and $183,770 in purchase orders for the school project.
