Centre sports roundup

Centre College's field hockey team had its four-match winning streak snapped when it fell 3-2 here Sunday to Kenyon College on Senior Day.

Kenyon took a 1-0 lead before Centre sophomore Teresa Johnstone got her fourth goal of the season off an assist from senior Maegan Nash to tie the match.

Kenyon's Sasha Grumman scored just 15 seconds before halftime to make it 2-1.

Kenyon (15-5) got another goal from Lauren Keiling five minutes into the second half to take a 3-1 lead. Centre (8-6).

Nash got her third goal of the year off an assist from senior Rachel Hayden with five minutes to play to complete the scoring.

The Colonels were outshot 14-10.. Junior Ann Guagliardo made four stops in goal for Centre.

The Colonels will play in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championships hosted by Rhodes College in Memphis this week. Centre, the third seed, will play No. 2 DePauw Saturday. Centre, the defending SCAC champion, split regular season matches with DePauw.

Volleyball

Centre dropped a pair of matches Sunday in the Centre College Halloween Bash.

The Colonels lost 30-28, 30-24, 30-19 to Mount St. Joseph. Senior Kate Bennett paced Centre with 30 assists, nine kills and two blocks. Junior Sarah Burger led the Colonels with 15 kills and senior Megan McElveen added 22 digs.

Centre lost a four-game match to Heidelberg 27-30, 30-18, 30-17, 30-13. Burger led Centre in kills with 13 and blocks with three. Freshman Kelly McCoy posted 11 kills and two blocks. Bennett tallied 34 assists while McElveen had 19 digs and senior Ellie Exner 15 digs and two service aces.

Centre will host Transylvania University Wednesday at 7 p.m. in its Senior Night match.

Swimming

Because of a reporter's error, it was incorrectly listed in Sunday's Advocate that the Centre women lost Saturday to the University of the Cumberlands and the men won.

The women won 116-102 and the men lost 115-99.
