Boyle voters should turn out and bring pens

October 31, 2006

Dear Editor,

After my last letter to the editor, I received a call from a supporter of Denise Curtsinger, a Democrat, who was angry at my disagreement with our county clerk. My answering machine recorded the call, but I will omit his identity out of courtesy.

He was clearly miffed by my recent opinions about Mrs. Curtsinger's polling place position, and he ended the call with, "If you have the guts to call me, please contact me at ..."

I tried calling him back twice but was only able to page him and leave a message. He hasn't yet called me back.

This is another proof that in the arena of ideas, the Democrats are losing ground. Democrat socialistic political agenda is no longer resonating with voters who are often better informed than their parents and grandparents were, and are more likely to prosper in ways they could hardly have imagined.

To counter this new "threat," our local Democrats are apparently resorting to abusing their political power to control the election cycle (and intimidate people who disagree with them by phone.) Reduce all the polling places in the city to one in a critical election year? Who exactly are you trying to kid, Mrs. Curtsinger? No one I know.

Cindi Davidson is running as a last minute write-in candidate for the county clerk's position. I asked her why she decided to run, and she told me that to her it is a matter of right and wrong. For many voters in this end of the county, having only one polling place will be a hardship, especially for commuters. She also said it is unfair that city and county government officials are employed by taxpayers, but the taxpayers will now have effectively no voice in the government we elect.

Which is why all of us who don't like Mrs. Curtsinger's grand scheme should all vote in this election, especially since this office is so critical to the lives of many private citizens in Boyle County. I will support Cindi Davidson for county clerk this November. All registered voters should turn out to vote, too, and bring pens.
