Asbury to hold band clinic

The Asbury College Music Department will host its 30th Annual All-Star Band Clinic on Nov. 16-18.

One hundred high school students have been selected for the clinic. A number of students from East Jessamine and West Jessamine High Schools have also been selected for the band.

The internationally acclaimed conductor and composer James Curnow will conduct the band. Curnow is also the Composer-In-Residence at Asbury College and a resident of Nicholasville. The activities of the weekend include concerts by Asbury College ensembles and a concert by the all-star band. On Thursday evening the college ensembles will present "Collage 2006" with the College Concert Band, percussion ensemble, vocal ensemble, and women's choir. That concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Hughes Auditorium.

Following the 9:30 p.m. concert, there will be a concert by the College Jazz Ensemble in the Grille.

Saturday afternoon at 3 is the concluding concert of the weekend in Hughes Auditorium. The all-star band will be joined by the college handbell choir, the concert choir, and Dr. Mark Schell, organ professor, in their concert.

The composers represented include Timothy Johnson, Shawn Okpebholo, William Latham, and James Curnow.

All concerts are free and are on the campus of Asbury College.
