Broadcasting company coming to Casey County

November 30, 2006|BRENDA S. EDWARDS

LIBERTY - Families in Casey County who need a little extra help for Christmas can get their stockings filled Saturday at a free giveaway.

Dove Broadcasting Inc., of Greenville, S.C., has been helping families in Appalachia for more than 30 years and decided to make a trip to the county this year, said Tammy Sloan, spokeswoman for the mission project.

"We provide toys, general gifts, clothing, blankets and household foods," she said. Each family also will get a bag of fruit.

"We want to share this season."

There is no admission charge, and the giveaway is primarily for people in the Casey County area.

People may pick up the gifts from 2-5 p.m. Saturday at Casey County Middle School, 1673 E. Hwy. 70.

Sloan said Dove Broadcasting's visit to Casey County this weekend is twofold.

The company will film a documentary of the lives of Jerry and Sandy Tucker and their work with needy children at the Galilean Home on South Fork Ridge.

The documentary is to bring attention to the Galilean Ministry, she said.

The Tuckers help underprivileged and sick children and have a prison ministry for babies of mothers in prisons, as well as other ventures.
