Mr. and Mrs. Harold Edwards of Paris and their son, Harold Jr., recently received a $1,000 check presented to them at Thompson's IGA, Boonesboro Plaza, for winning the store's Tablerite Beef Roundup Contest.

The Winchester Municipal Utilities Commission voted Thursday night to purchase tank and pump equipment for collecting, transporting and distributing liquid sludge from the waste water treatment plant.

Clark County school children were released from school early today due to wet streets and roads that were expected to glaze over with ice as afternoon temperatures dropped quickly into the teens.

Mayor Carroll Ecton and Clark County Judge-Executive Gardner Wagers recently prepared a proclamation declaring Tuesday Letcher Norton Day. On hand for the signing were Norman Howard and Tom Goebel, members of the Committee to honor Norton; Bob Haggard, director of pupil personnel and George Rogers Clark High School Principal Claude Sallee. Norton coached varsity basketball at Clark County High School for 23 years with a record of 603 wins and 140 losses. His 1951 team won the state tournament.

A program entitled "Christmas Music with the Muppets" was presented by fifth-grade students at a recent meeting of the Shearer School Parent-Teacher Association.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Carlisle Besuden III of Spring Hill Farm, Mount Sterling Road, have returned from a four-day trip to the Wigwam Arizona Country Club Resort in the O'O Valley of Sun C'C at Leitchfield Park near Phoenix, Ariz.
