Six Casey students hurt in accident

December 22, 2006

LIBERTY - Six Casey County High School students were injured Wednesday when a county dump truck rammed into a line of traffic that had backed up after students were released for their holiday break.

The accident occurred at 12:09 p.m. on Ky. 70 about a mile from the school, said Liberty Police Chief Ron Whited.

County employee Bruce Poff, who was driving the dump truck, rear-ended one car carrying four students. The car was pushed into another car with two students on board, Whited said.

Jeremy Wilson, 17, of Liberty was driving the 1997 Chevy Blazer that was first struck. Wilson and passengers Joe Shoaf, 18, Kayla Buis, 17, and Brittany Kennedy, 17, all of Liberty, were injured.

Wilson's SUV was pushed into the rear of a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Holly Durham, 17, and carrying her sister, Amber Durham, 13, of Yosemite, both of whom were injured.

All six students were transported to Casey County Hospital where they were treated and released, Whited said.

Poff, 45, was not injured.

Whited said no charges were filed in the accident.
