January 03, 2007|Emily Salmon

It was a busy second day on the job for new Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. as a man robbed a store Tuesday morning at the intersection of Iron Works and Ecton roads.A man entered the Country Boy Food Store at 109 Ecton Road, indicated that he had a weapon and demanded money, according to Perdue.

"It was your basic scenario," he said.

The female employee backed away from the cash register, and the man attempted to open it, causing the register to fall on the floor and pop open. The man then fled the store on foot down Ecton Road with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robber is described as a white male in his 20s, wearing a dark toboggan and dark sweatshirt. He is about 5'10" inches tall with a thin build and no facial hair.

Perdue says the department does have suspects, and detectives are following up with an investigation. A tracking dog owned by the Winchester Police Department was also used in an attempt to find the man.
